Dr. Mikhail Novikov,
MD
Dr. Novikov’s roadmap to becoming a surgeon started in eighth grade, while studying human anatomy. His interest in medicine was ignited and led him to various volunteering experiences in the medical field. At age 16, he started working as a janitor mopping floors in the Emergency Department at a small town hospital in Russia, where he grew up. It was the exposure to different patients and gradually being able to view bigger procedures that made him dream bigger.
In many European countries, medical students increasingly add clinical experience as they work through the levels of patient care – nursing assistant, nurse and then physician. While working nights, weekends and during school breaks, Dr. Novikov was able to master all levels of health care in the system. It’s that ladder of experience that has given him the special ability to truly understand the daily interactions between patients and health care workers.
He found something very gratifying when former patients would recognize him while using public transportation or walking in town. After working at larger medical institutions in the United States, he missed the local touch, and decided to open the practice in Northborough.
